Winter Break

Hard to believe that it is almost time for the Winter Holidays.  A couple of events are coming up soon.  December 14, 2011, is the staff holiday luncheon.  All classes are asked to donate at least two dishes for the luncheon.  If you would like to donate a side dish, salad, appetizer or dessert, please deliver it to the school by 9:30 on the 14th. 

Next, on December 15, 2011, at 6:45 there will be a PTA General Membership meeting preceding the Chorus Holiday Concert.  Hope to see you there.

Welcome Back!

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year! It was a hot summer and we hope that everyone had a great one! Now that the school year has begun, we look forward to a fantastic year and invite everyone to become a part of the PTA. 

We still face many challenges economically in our schools and communities. This is where your PTA membership is crucial for our teachers and students to have a successful year. PTA plays an integral part in providing funds that directly benefit all students in every classroom. In prior years, in conjunction with Nicholson Foundation, we were able to raise enough money to provide each classroom with an ELMO. PTA purchases educational magazines such as Weekly Reader, National Geographic Pathfinder, and Time for Kids for use in the classrooms. We also provide our Media Center with Accelerated Reader quizzes, incentives, and online educational resources. PTA helps to provide materials for our Physical Education, Art, and Music programs as well. Through the PTA, you are able to enhance and encourage learning for all children at Nicholson Elementary.

Believe it or not, there is no obligation of time when you join PTA! We encourage you to volunteer in your child’s classroom and if you do, the amount of time you put in is up to you. PTA is here to promote and support opportunities for families to effectively participate in their children’s lives. When families and teachers unite, everyone benefits. We want to help each and every child reach their full potential!

Coming home soon with your child will be a form for you to join PTA. We encourage you if you haven’t already joined, to fill it out and become a member. Our goal as a PTA is to achieve 100% membership and we can not do it without YOU!

Kell Volleyball

Kell Would like you to be aware of the 2011 Kell Longhorns Volleyball Camp.  June 6-8 rising 3rd-5th graders 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., rising 6th -9th graders 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Location Main Gym of Kell High School.  Registration fee of $90 includes camp T-shirt, prizes and pizza party on last day.  Non-Refundable $40 deposit is due May 20th.  Questions call:  Tracy Steinlight  770-653-4382.

If you have a son or daughter that is going to participate in athletics here at Kell in 2011-2012 I have a great opportunity for you. On

Wednesday, April 27th at 5 pm. Dr. Shah of Atlanta Sports Medicince and his staff will be conducting ALL SPORTS PHYSICALS at KELL HIGH SCHOOL

 

 

 

. Dr. Shah is currently an assistant team doctor for the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Thrashers.

This physical will be good for the entire 2011-2012 school year for all athletics in Cobb County. A physical is required for athletic participation at the high school level but it is a great idea to get a physical before participating in any athletic activity.

The cost of the physical is $20 (cash please) and all are asked to meet in the gym at 5 pm on Wednesday, April 27th. Please have

Spring is Here!

Spring is here! Or at least it seems that way with the wonderful weather we have been enjoying. It is hard to believe that there are only two more months of school. However, they are two very busy months with Art Enrichment Day, Spring Break, the Great Nicholson Clean-up, the Relay for Life Eggstravaganza, Field Day, and the end of year events. As you know, Principal Shue issued a challenge to our families to get involved at Nicholson. We are well on the way to meeting our challenge goal of 500 volunteer hours by May 20. Please, please continue to help by volunteering at one of the above activities. You will have fun and your kids will love seeing you at school.
Also, at the March 17, 2011, PTA meeting the nominating committee was elected to select the slate of candidates for the PTA Board for the 2011-2012 school year. If you are interested in being on the board or in serving on a committee, please let us know. Elections will be coming up on April 29.

Cold!

I don't know about you, but I am ready for Spring to be here.  The cold, the rain, the snow, the sleet, I just want some nice warm days. 

After the PTA meeting on February 3, 2011, the Fourth Grade students put on an awesome PE show for the parents. It was obvious how hard the kids had been working and it was a lot of fun to watch. 

Our next PTA meeting is scheduled for March 17, 2011, at 6:45 p.m.  At that meeting we will be electing a nominating committee.  We need five PTA members and 1 Alternate who are willing to serve on the nominating committee to select the candidates for the PTA Executive Board for the 2011-2012 school year.  If you are interested in serving on the nominating committee or are interested in serving on the PTA Board please let either me or Principal Shue know at your earliest convenience.  Thank you.  Mirla Bigda

Thanksgiving

It is hard to believe that it is almost Thanksgiving.  I hope that everyone is looking forward to the break and spending time with family and friends.

Congratulations to the 2010-2011 Reflections winners!  You all did a great job and thank you to everyone who participated.  The winning entries have been forwarded to the East Cobb Council for the next level of judging.  Good luck!

Next week are the VIP lunches.  We are looking forward to seeing you all at the school for a yummy lunch!

Also next week, is the Book Fair. Come by and enjoy cookies and juice on Family Night.  There will also be drawings for free books!

Thank you to everyone who made carnival such a great event this year!  A special thank you to everyone who volunteered and worked a station during carnival, this event could not happen without you.  Thank you to everyone who donated items to the Cake Walk and Silent Auction.  Thank you to all of the teachers and staff who came out to support our school.  But most of all, thank you to all the kids who came out and had fun!  We love our Nicholson Stars.
